Privacy by default. You can opt into a real photo from Settings whenever you'd like.

Public directory cards use a generative avatar derived from your handle, not your real Instagram photo. This is privacy-by-default — brands evaluating you see your work first, not your face.
From Settings → Profile listing, you can swap in a real photo when you're ready.
