Business or Creator account — and how to switch

Meta's Graph API only publishes from Business or Creator accounts. Switching takes about thirty seconds and is reversible.

The Graph API publishing scope only works on Instagram Business or Creator accounts — not Personal. This is a Meta requirement, not ours. The good news: switching takes about thirty seconds, and you can switch back at any time.

How to switch (iPhone / Android)

  1. 01Open the Instagram app
  2. 02Tap your profile icon → the three-line menu
  3. 03Settings and privacy → Account type and tools
  4. 04Tap "Switch to professional account"
  5. 05Choose "Creator" (recommended for individuals) or "Business"
  6. 06Pick the category that fits — you can change it later

Creator vs. Business

  • Creator — designed for individuals (writers, photographers, musicians, artists). Cleaner profile, no contact buttons by default.
  • Business — designed for brands and shops. Adds a category label and contact buttons (call, email, directions).

Either works for Nexus campaigns. Most members go with Creator.

What changes (and what doesn't)

  • Your follower count, posts, captions, and DMs all stay the same
  • Your profile becomes public (a Meta requirement for the professional types)
  • You gain access to Insights — your own analytics dashboard
  • You can switch back to Personal at any time from the same menu
