Business or Creator account — and how to switch
Meta's Graph API only publishes from Business or Creator accounts. Switching takes about thirty seconds and is reversible.
§IV · Connecting Instagram
The Graph API publishing scope only works on Instagram Business or Creator accounts — not Personal. This is a Meta requirement, not ours. The good news: switching takes about thirty seconds, and you can switch back at any time.
How to switch (iPhone / Android)
- 01Open the Instagram app
- 02Tap your profile icon → the three-line menu
- 03Settings and privacy → Account type and tools
- 04Tap "Switch to professional account"
- 05Choose "Creator" (recommended for individuals) or "Business"
- 06Pick the category that fits — you can change it later
Creator vs. Business
- Creator — designed for individuals (writers, photographers, musicians, artists). Cleaner profile, no contact buttons by default.
- Business — designed for brands and shops. Adds a category label and contact buttons (call, email, directions).
Either works for Nexus campaigns. Most members go with Creator.
What changes (and what doesn't)
- Your follower count, posts, captions, and DMs all stay the same
- Your profile becomes public (a Meta requirement for the professional types)
- You gain access to Insights — your own analytics dashboard
- You can switch back to Personal at any time from the same menu
